Blizzard of Feb '10
As if we didn't get enough snow on Saturday, yesterday we got another 20 inches or more on top of the 20 we already had...Great! We of course did not have work or school,so we were all snowed in together. So what do you do in a snow storm?? Well if you are Norm and I you shovel once (Norm), shovel twice (Me), shovel 3 times (Norm again) , and a fourth the next day (Norm). I managed to keep the kids in yesterday during the storm , so we played with the Wii, they finished writing out their Valentines, read books and watched movies. I made baked Mac & Cheese, my favorite comfort food, and turkey meat loaf. We enjoyed hot chocolate and a fire, and even made ice cream out of snow.
Here's how:
Scoop about a gallon of clean snow into a large bowl, Add a cup of sugar, 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, and about 2 cups of milk, (more or less to get the right consistancy) And you have ice cream.
I personally didn't care for it, but the kids liked it.
What do you do the day after the storm? You dig yourself out...and bundle up the kids for playing in the snow.
How do you bundle up the kids??
Step 1-Make them go to the bathroom!
Step 2-put on turtleneck shirt
Step 3- put on first layer of pants (pajama pants or leggings), tuck in turtleneck shirt.
Step 4-put on first pair of socks, tuck first layer of pants into socks.
Step 5- put on second pair of pants.
Step 6- put on second pair of socks, tuck in second layer of pants into socks.
Step 7-put on snow pants.
Step 8-put on boots.
Step 9-put on gloves
Step 10-put on coats, making sure gloves stay tucked into sleeves.
Step 12-put on hats, pull hoods up over the hat.
Step 13- wrap scarf around head..tie to keep it snug.
Step 14-thoroughly coat lips with chap stick.
Now the kids are ready to go outside. 14 steps are necessary, to ensure that the kids stay out for longer than a half an hour , and don't come in early complaining that they are cold or wet.
Then when they come in, you throw all that stuff in the dryer and repeat a couple of hours later.
Seeing as we have 40 inches or more of snow outside and snow mountains that will take months to melt, I figure I will be repeating those 14 steps several times over the next few weeks. Uuuugh! We don't even go outside in the winter when it's dry!

I'm thinking the most important step is the going to the bathroom one first.
Ugh, This is why Carter has only gone out once. And he doesn't even do the bathroom step yet! TOO MUCH WORK!
