The biggest and most anticipated event of the year, if you're a Boy Scout is the Pinewood Derby. This event was held last night at a local church building. Basically the boys get a kit which includes a block of wood and four wheels and axles and the rest is up to your imagination to turn it into a car. Norm and Nathan had been preparing for this for a couple of months now. Truth be told, Norm did most of the work on the car (and enjoyed it immensely) but Nathan did help decide the design and helped with the sanding. Norm tried to have him paint it, but the trial run didn't go so well. He had trouble pressing down the nozzle on the paint can and when he did it was too much in one spot. He wanted his car to look like a real race car and it turned out just the way he wanted. They even added his favorite Pokemon character as a decal! There is a 5oz. weight allowance and we weighed in right at the limit....which gave his car a bit of an advantage, along with his aerodynamic design. Nathan's car took 1st place in the first 2 heats of the race , then 2nd twice then 1st again then 3rd place...ultimately giving him the 3rd place trophy amongst the Tiger Scouts! He was so proud! It was very exciting!
I made a little montage of the night. Enjoy!

Ok, For someone who was having writer's block a few weeks ago, you have outdone yourself here. What a wonderful tribute to Nathan's first Pinewood Derby. Congratulations Nathan on a job well done.
I had to laugh -- I remember my brother "making" his pinewood derby car (when really Dad did most of the work!) I'm glad he had such a good time and a successful evening racing his car! I loved in the montage how Nathan had his hands in the praying position - so cute!!
