This year we had the opportunity to go on the boy scouts trip since Nathan joined the scouts. The trip for this year was Washington, DC. The price was right, so we decided to all go as a family. The trip included 2 nights stay at the Residence Inn, Marriott, which was right across from the Pentagon and we also had a distant view of Arlington Cemetery. Our meals from dinner Friday evening to dinner Saturday evening were also included as well as a guided tour of the Capital Building. The Capital was beautiful inside, but not too interesting for my kids. They were really looking forward to our afternoon at the Museum of Natural History. Unfortunately, we were held back a bit with the group we were with so when we got to the museum, we had less than an 2 hours to see it before we had to meet up again with all the groups for the scouts to get their picture taken as a group. We could have gone back afterwards, but the kids were pretty much spent at that point, so we went back to the hotel for some swimming before dinner. After a late night, early wake up Sunday we were in for a long, hot day at the National Zoo, which we went to on our own. I tried to avoid the heat and talk Nathan into the Air and Space Museum instead, but his heart was set on the zoo. I actually think the kids had as much fun riding the metro as they did at the museum and the zoo. It was an exhausting weekend with all the walking we did in the heat, but I would love to go back in the near future to see some more of the museums and monuments that we didn't see. Maybe in the fall!
Here is a slide show of our weekend:
