Our Uninvited Guest

We've had a couple of uninvited guest this summer. A groundhog decided to make a home underneath our deck. We usually have at least one groundhog settling in there each summer. Though they are probably not too dangerous, you never know what it might do if it feels cornered, plus Nathan has caught it nibbling on our vegetable plants. So we borrow my neighbor's trap to catch it and release it in the woods away from our home. The first one we caught with some zucchini and grapes. Of course Norm was away that weekend, and me, being the chicken that I am, had to call my Dad to come over and release it. A couple of weeks later I noticed the little muddy paw prints on our deck steps again (the hole is right underneath the steps). The next morning I spotted the small groundhog in our backyard, so again, we borrowed the trap. We left it out for a night and a day, forgetting to put some bait in it, but when Norm came home the other night, he was surprised to see that the groundhog climbed in anyway and got himself trapped. I sorta felt bad because it looked like a baby. We probably caught it's Momma a couple of weeks ago. Of course the kids thought we should keep it and take care of it. Kaitlyn said she could give it a bottle. But they went with Norm to watch it be released into it's new home in the woods by the creek. Maybe Momma an baby will be reunited. Hopefully that was the last one!
