In my cookie Jar: Angel Sugar Crisps

These are yummy! Made them with the kids yesterday when their friends all went inside early and they were "bored to death".
Angel Sugar Crisps
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
Water
Additional sugar

In medium mixing bowl, cream butter, shortening, sugars, egg, and vanilla until light and fluffy.  Sift together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.  Add to creamed mixture; mix until blended.  Shape into balls the size of large marbles.  Dip half of each ball into the water, then into the sugar. (I omitted the water part after the first batch . . . .I think it works better without) Place sugared side up on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 6 minutes or until lightly browned.  Cool on wire wracks. Makes 4 dozen.
